  1. 5 DIY At Home Cocktails!

Everyone loves a cocktail. You can have one that’s sweet, sour, creamy, with lots of alcohol or little alcohol. That’s the beauty with them, you can make any cocktail you like, how you like it, by adding your own twist to it at home. Here are five cocktail creations, some that I have put my own spin on, I enjoy making and drinking at home.

    Godfather Cocktail

    25ml Buffalo Trace Bourbon

    25ml Lazzaroni Amaretto

    Squeeze of fresh Lime

    Jack Rudy Bourbon Cocktail Cherries

Put the bourbon, amaretto and lime into a cocktail shaker and shake well. Pour over ice and top up the glass with Cola. Finish with bourbon cherry on top.

Simple and easy to make, you can substitute the bourbon with any non peated whisky

    Chocolate Espresso Martini

    45ml Pravda Espresso Vodka

    30ml Espresso

20ml Gabriel Boudier Creme De Cacao White

    Chocolate (grated)

    Coffee Beans

Shake all the liquid ingredients with ice and fine strain into a chilled glass. Garnish with the coffee beans and grated chocolate.

    Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri

    Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri

    200g Fresh Strawberries

    60ml Bounty Lime Rum Liqueur

    Fresh Lime

Blend the strawberries then push the resulting puree through a sieve to remove some of the seeds. Add the puree into the blender again with lots of ice the rum and the juice of half a lime. Blend then pour into glass, garnish with a couple of strawberries. This is a favourite on a hot summer day when we have barbeques as it is relatively low in alcohol but really tasty.

    Summer Spritz Duo

    25ml Edinburgh Gin Elderflower Liqueur

    125ml Saint Clair Sauvignon Blanc

    Soda Water

    Mint Leaves

Mix the gin with the sauvignon blanc in a glass with ice. Top up with soda water and garnish with a lemon twist and mint leaves.

    (New) Old Fashioned

    Starward Old Fashioned

50ml Starward (New) Old Fashioned Whisky Cocktail

Pour the whisky into a glass with ice.

Okay so i’ve cheated a bit as this is a ready made cocktail mix, but sometimes you just want to sit back and relax.

  2. Reds of Italy

    Reds of Italy
We have a super selection of rosso wines from all over Italy.
From Veneto we currently stock a lovely Trastullo wine combining Merlot & Corvina grapes that slips down a treat at £12.95 a bottle.
Other classics we offer are a superb Primitivo from Puglia at £14.95 ,a Chianti Classico Reserva realising £19.95 a bottle and from Piemonte a quite wonderful Barolo at £39.50 a bottle.
Of all our wines from Italy we feel that at the very top of the tree is the amazing Amarone Classico Riserva 2013 made from the Corvina and rondinella grapes. It is rich and intense with amazing notes of violets and pipe tobacco on the nose moving to sandalwood and plums. The palate takes in prunes and bitter dark chocolate with an over riding wave of vanilla. It is nicely balanced with a sleeping fiesty finale. Drinking nicely now it has aging potential to take it to 2025 and beyond. At £43.50 a bottle it offers excellent value for money and a place for it in any serious wine cellar is a must.
Food pairings for the above wines:
    Roasted duck or pizza
    Beetroot curry(Theldala),smoked cottage cheese
    Chianti Classico
Tomato based pasta sauces with wild boar
    Barolo Riserva
    Quail,goose pheasant or duck
    Amarone Classico
    Steaks,stews,ribs or big flavoured cheeses
