In 1948, after several literary successes, George Orwell retreated to the remote island of Jura and wrote his penultimate novel, Nineteen Eighty-Four, the futuristic story of a country controlled by censorship, manipulation and harsh oppression.
In 1984 Jura casked a small quantity of spirit to honour the novel and the author’s time on island. Thirty years later, the Famous George Orwell™ Vintage 1984 was released as a limited edition 30YO malt, with only 1,984 bottles available worldwide.
Matured in American White Oak ex-bourbon barrels and enhanced by aged Apostoles Oloroso Sherry butts from Jerez, which previously held 30 year old Sherry wines. Each bottle is non-chill filtered and part of a small batch release.
